Stamp2 8K EEPROM

Hi Everyone,

I just found out that Parallax now has an
8K EEPROM Chip. #602-00008 for $10.50.
(old news to most?)
Does this chip replace the existing 2K Chip
on the Stamp? Soldering it in? Can you now
buy a Stamp2 with the 8K installed?

Thanks, RayW

No, the BS2 is limited to 2K of address space; it has to do with the
interpreter architecture. The others in the Stamp 2 series (E, SX, P, PE)
use a segmented strategy that breaks larger EEPROMs into 2K chunks.

Why, yes, isn't this called the BS2p?

Actually, it is true that the BS2 family can only
address 2k EEPROM at a time. The modules with larger
EEPROM space use a 'bank switching' scheme to give
you access to the additional space.

So no, you can't retrofit a BS2 to use 8K.
But the 8K is used in the Stamp family, for the
    larger spaced modules.

On the other hand, you CAN use an 'SPI' eeprom
chip as an external memory for the BS2.

Thanks Jon for the response about the 8K EEPROM.
However, I do have a Stamp 2E. I have been
unable to get enough info on using the memory
above 2K. I do not have the latest refenence
manual. It was printed before the 2E came out.
What manual or download do I need to get more
    information on extended memory?
    Thanks,
    RayW
