Suddenly unable to communicate with Stamp 2p

Hello,

I bought a basic stamp 2p last week for an engineering design course
I am taking. While using it to drive some small motors the other
day, i was sending it various programs to test the motors and
suddenly it stopped responding with "No Stamps Found", with
LOOPBACK: yes ECHO: no and no devices listed under the COM port. I
have a stamp 2 and a stamp 2e that I got from school and when I
swapped them for the 2p in the same spot on my circuit, it came up
with the correct stamp in my computer and I could program it.

What I would like to know is if my 2p has somehow been damaged
beyond my ability to revive, or if it is just stuck or locked up. I
am very frustrated because I purchased this just about a week ago
and I am using it in a project that is going into an exhibition on
wednesday so our project needs to work. The 2e will serve our code
space needs but the 2p has the speed advantage that I need, and I
spent the $80 on it, I would like to get it to work.

As you can see, sending it in for repair will not suffice at this
point because I need it for Wednesday. If anyone has any ideas or
help on how to get my 2p to work again, I'd be really appreciative.

Here is my setup:
-DELL Laptop connected through serial port to basic stamp on a
protoboard
-I made my own serial port connector, which works with the other
stamps and used to work with the 2p. When I put the 2p on the BOE,
it still got "Stamp not found" when queried.
-Voltages on Sin, Sout and ATN are about +5,-5,-5 and when i run an
identify or download, probing with a multimeter shows it go up to
about -4.8

I am just really frustrated and axious at this point as it is crunch
time to get our project done and things are failing on me.

Thanks for any help I can get,
