Tranceivers --- please help!

Hello:
I am working with the basic stamp 2sx and two RF digital tranceivers
#27988. Been working on it for weeks and still doesn't work the way I
want. Now, it's down to the wire and I am at a loss.
The transceivers need to send and receive back and forth using the
sent numbers to manipulate a LED.
For example: send A's #'s to (B) transceiver then use the numbers
from tranceiver B and send B's #'s to (A) tranceiver and use the
number on tranceiver A.
I have tried the SEROUT&SERIN with and without the WAIT command, I
have tried looping the send and receive fuctions(one sending and one
receiving and then reversed). I have also done the MASTER/SLAVE
technique given to me by RF Digital but it's too code heavy for what
I want and it doesn't work well with my project.
Please help, I know someone has done something like this - any
message boards, example pages or anything will help.
