True RS232??

There are some problems programming the Basic Stamp with newer
computers due to the fact that the Serial interface on the kit is not
designed to be true RS232 (it relies on the fact that it will see
+/-12V at the PC. Newer computers have +/-5V on the RS232.
Their is a USB to RS232 adaptor if I am not mistaken.
Is this designed to work with true USB or is their a potential for
problems here as well on newer computers as well.
Has Parallax redesigned their board to be true RS232 compatible, if
they haven't yet does anybody know if they plan to?
