Need a PWM (Chopper) Stepper Motor Drive for my BS2P Stamp
Archiver

I've been using the Little Step U stepper motor controller and really
like it as a basic L/R (voltage) motor drive. The built-in
microprocessor portion of the unit interfaces very cleanly to my BS2P and
has loads of features such as: ramp up/down speed, goto, variable PPS,
home, limit switch inputs, etc.
I'm looking for a pulse width modulator (PWM) aka "chopper" drive for
enhanced performance, namely motor speed, but I'd like to see one with a
built-in micro processor if possible. www.AllMotion.com has some nice
ones but they are $$$. Does anyone know of alternate sources? If
anyone wants to develop one for Parallax let me know, I'll be first on
your customer list!
Thanks,
Chris

I am in the same boat. My solution is to pound a square peg into a round
hole by using a little step-U (SimStep in my case) to gate p & n channel
mosfets. As I understand it, I can simply PWM the supply to the mosfets and
not have to re-write my code for another controller. I need a controller
that can supply 4 amps per coil and they are expensive. I haven't tried it
yet but I will let you know if it works.
