Users Group - Dayton

I don't often post here, but am kept informed of activities by a
friend who does. He passed on a daily digest which I've edited down
from to the relevant inputs and attached to the end of my message.
I have been quietly encouraging the Dayton Microcomputer Association
(DMA) to invite a Paralax rep to speak at one of their general
meetings, or at a Computerfest(R). My intention is to encourage the
starting of a user's group, or Special Interest Group (SIG) in the
area. When the DMA first formed (one of the oldest, most active, and
largest in the country) most members were interested in experimenting
with development hardware. As personal computers have matured into
(almost) appliances, the group's interest seems to have moved more
toward commercial software programs and new equipment offerings. I'd
like to see some activity with things like the Stamp for the
tinkerers. I'm not going to be the organizer – but I will help within
the DMA getting a SIG started if you want. Why don't you discuss that
when you meet at Hamvention? Visit the DMA website at
http://www.dma.org . You don't have to join DMA ($25 a year) to join a
user group, but it's worth it. I'm in 2 groups, the digital
photography and Linux ones.
The Computerfest has also changed, with many more speakers and
classes. The Linux, Networking, and Apple SIGs sponsor hands-on
"play-pens". The Classic Computer SIG brings their museum and the
Digital Textiles and Northern SIGs have displays. Wouldn't it be fun
to show off your projects to thousands of people? Learn about
Computerfest at: http://www.computerfest.com

This is one area Parallax could support. all it would need to do is
list user groups as on it's pages. just links, not endorsements.

That's a great suggestion.Parallax will maintain a "BASIC Stamp Users
Group" page on our web site. Once we receive a couple of submissions
(email them off list to ewood@p...), I will send the link to
the list.
The following information would be helpful for the posting. If you
have additional information than what I outlined below, that's fine.
The idea is to keep the listing nice and pithy.

Speaking of user's groups, I wonder if anyone is going to the Dayton
Hamvention next month?
I'll be there. If there is enough interest, perhaps we should schedule
an impromptu Stamp meeting somewhere.

Yes, several of us drive up from Houston most years. I haven't made it
the last few years, but I'm planning on being there this year. We will
have an outdoor spot, but I don't know how everyone would find it...
We should pick a time on Saturday and some conspicuous meeting place
on the grounds....
