Does anyone know of a manufacturer of mini fuel cells?
I would like to look into using fuel cells to power my
robot projects.

Thanks,
Andrew Hoover

    Andrew,

It depends what you want. I have been pursuing a fuel cell bot myself. The
main trouble I have been having so far is raising the voltage of the cell
enough to run the logic circuits. I have tried several cells using the MAX
756, no luck. I am still looking. E-mail me off list if you want my details
    on my failures ;-)

    Hey all,
These fuel cells run on hydrogen right? Or are there different versions
that run on different substances? If they do run on hydrogen how do you
    plan on getting that fuel?

Generally Speaking, fuel cells generate electricity by
the interaction between hydrogen and oxygen. Getting
oxygen isn't difficult, but it is time consuming. You
would use either a solar array (for the "free"
generation of Hydrogen) or AC house voltage to split
water into hydrogen and oxygen. After that you use the
hydrogen and air for the fuel cell. The whole trick to
the system is to figure out an effecient way to
    generate hydrogen.

    Hi All,

This is getting kinda OT but...

The Thames and Kosmos fuel cell in the link is neat, I have one.
Unfortunately, since it is a single membrane cell, it's voltage under any
load drops to about .7V. The motor that comes with it is a special motor
made to run on this low voltage, and it doesn't produce enough power to run
much of a bot. Further, it is (so far for me) impossible to make the cell
cough up enough voltage to run a HF DC/DC converter on. At least not a
through hole type like the MAX756. They have a SMT model that might work,
    but I can't do SMT.

One extremely neat feature about the T&K cell is that it is reversible,
meaning it will perform electrolysis if voltage is applied to it, and it is
a very efficient fuel producer. The current plan with my bot is to use one
of these to produce fuel for another cell.

Any more details should be off list, so e-mail if you want.
