Has anybody ever used the basic stamp 1 to control a pair of bi polar
stepper motors?
please advice on the source code and schematic, my basic stamp is on a
carpet rover robot from lynx motion.

motors directly but instead used stepper drive modules and supplied them
with the proper logic to operate such as pulsed steps, or timed steps and
directional and speed control. My web site shows a typical board for these
kinds of control applications: http://www.geocities.com/jimforkin2003

That is the easiest way. put together a driver board and then
contorl that from the stamp. Allegro makes stepper driver chips in
both uni and bi polar flavors.
They make a dual H-bridge chip as well as a chopper style bi-polar
chip if you want any real power.
