how to program the IC

Hello,
I am very very new to stamps. I have had some experience
working with 8051. I was just looking at the STAMP IC's
(i.e the 14 pin DIP versions and so on). I want to know
how I will be able to program these IC's(they fit in
a bread board rite?).
What do I get in a BS Development Kit that is not there
on the IC?

bending of stamp pins while transferring. (zero insertion force
socket would be optimal).
programming uses a serial connection with your pc. Ask someone at
parallax for a 'super carrier' circuit diagram, it will help
immensely if you want to buy just the IC and hook everything up
yourself (that's what I did, you'll need two 0.1uF capacitors). For
power it will be best to use an appropriate AC-DC adaptor that you
can plug into your wall (I was stuck trying to get my bs2sx to work
and realized that it was that I was using a low power 9v battery).
Just cut the AC adaptor wire's end off.
To connect the serial cable with your stamp you'll either cut off the
serial cable's end and soder or alligator clip the individual wires
to where they need to go, or you can buy a serial receptacle which
has wirewrap pins on one side and a normal serial port on the other.
To actually program the stamp you'll need to download a basic
compiler from parallax for free.
In the development kit as far as I know you get a premade board into
which you can plug in you basic stamp, it will have everything ready
to plug in a battery, serial cable, etc. The most useful thing is the
serial receptacle, if you don't feel like buying the receptacle from
digikey.com, serial connection can be a pain.
