Relay for 6 volt motor

I am fairly new to basic stamps, I am looking for a good DPDT relay
to use with a 6-12 volt motor. I searched Jameco but I dont know
whick one to use. Is there such a relay or do I have to use a control
board. I am familar with the "spike" relay used in First Robotics but
am looking for one fairly inexpensive from either Jameco or Digi-key.

relay. Check out my web site for some additional information using stamps
and solid state switching for relay/motor/valve/etc. control.

one is the coil or the voltage you need to feed it to activate it.
another is a DC load, another is an AC load and for motors there is
often an inductin load too. this last one is most often listed in
just hp at voltage.
with a 6V motor, just figure amps that the realy would need to handle.
you can dismiss the motor voltage from that point as the AMPs is the
ratings you are looking for.
then find a coil voltage that you want to use. ie: 5vdc if from the
Stamp board power or 12VDC is you want to use a darlington or
transistor to power it.
it is very simple. treat the coil as the load the Stamp will see and
the motor as the load the contacts will see.
Internally, the realy is isolated.
Jameco has bunches of them.
if you wanna scrounge, call an alarm company and ask if you can have
the old boxes they throw out. most of those have a few relays, some
small, some pretty large for hobby use. none are as high as 10 amp
rating (usually)
