I just wrote about this subject in my May Nuts & Volts column. Here's the
    short version:

    1. Read the docs -- Parallax has A LOT OF DOCUMENTATION
    2. Solve a problem using the BASIC Stamp -- yours of someone else's
    3. Imitate a known device that you find interesting. I did this with a gate
    controller.

You'll have to read Nuts & Volts to see the code and description for the gate
    controller. ;-)

I have found "Programming and Customizing the Basic Stamp Computer" by Scott
Edwards to be the best of the three or four books I've bought so far. I
mainly come from a programming background, so I really appreciate his clear
descriptions of basic circuits. For example, he explains how do determine
the value of a resistor for a LED, rather than just telling you to put in a
specific value. Also, his projects are more ambitious, so he has to explain
    more complex issues.

If you come from an electronics background, with no programming knowledge, I
couldn't tell you if this one is the best. I pretty much use any of the
books for a command reference, because I already understand how to program.

This is my unofficial Stamp FAQ -- many on the list have contributed to
    it.

I guess we need an article in it about the new Stamp editor...

I bought the earth measurements kit to start, then Al Williams' book
"Microcontroller Projects Using the Basic Stamp". After that I poked through
and did many of the examples from Parallax's website. Finally, I picked some
projects of my own and (stumbled) though making those work.
