The DS1302 is a $5.00 part!
(OK, $6.00 with crystal). Plus it handles the
3-wire 'SPI' protocol, minimizing pin use on the
Stamp. Do you really want to go through all the
hoops you'd have to jump through to interface a
parallel I/O port part?
Having said that, www.maxim-ic.com seems to have
taken over the Dallas parts, chech their website
for PDF docs.
