[[basicstamps] NTE1774 Motor Control IC]

I just heard of NTE recently; a local store apparently uses their system.
Perhaps some parts are not intended for use in new designs?

NOTE: NTE data sheets DO NOT contain the following information: Application
Notes
Typical Application Circuits
Test Circuits
Internal Diagrams
Characteristic Curves
Schematics

or any other information affiliated with new circuit design. The
specifications contained are standard electrical characteristics intended to
assist the user in selecting the correct NTE device for use in an already
existing, working circuit.

There is more information in the data sheet for the NTE1834.

I assumed that NTE makes chips, not research in applications.

the 555 has so many applications, but is also described to death in
various papers. why describe it yet again ? make it cheap and sell
to the guys who are shopping price.

I assumed that NTE makes mass market chips so if you find one you
need to use, look for a comprable device by someone else for the data
    sheets.

This is conjecture on my part, but that's the way I took their
website notice. and using one data sheet from one manufacturer and a
chip from another is risky. always check the specs.

NTE (and ECG, if they are still around) brand stuff are typically
overpriced, generic replacement parts originally marketed for TV / radio
repair people who needed to cross-reference / replace off-brand Japanese et
al components. Good for the TV shops, bad for the hobbyist.

Fry's sells the NTE stuff, and you can download an NTE cross-reference
program on the net somewhere. If you really-really need to replace a part
and can't track down an exact replacement, the NTE stuff is OK. If you need
to build something and don't want to spend an arm and a leg, buy from Mouser
or Digi-Key. You may be able to backtrack from the NTE part and find out
what the real device number is.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I guess I'll give up on this chip
and find one by a Mfr that provides detailed data sheets.
