USB, basic stamp as BIOS?

hey every, what i want to do is basicly convert a computer or its
basic parts atleast (hard drive or some other storage medium,
processor, RAM) and i want to use a basic stamp (or javelin stamp) as
a bios like chip and i want to use it as the hub for I/O coming from
the main system, and oh yea i want the I/O lines to be USB so i can
connect any I/O systems i want with minor code changes (addition of
drivers and such). and i want to be able to program the main programs
that run the robot from the hard disc in JAVA, if the hard disc's OS
was dos or something of the sort that would be fine because if i
wanted to add a driver it would be nice to be able to hook it to a
computer and add files or file systems off a more user friendly
system. Let me clarify one thing, when i say USB i don't necessarily
mean USB just something like it, if i can have regular usb without
windows or something of the sort that would be fantastic but what i
was thinkin of was was a system that may have like 2 ports then
branches to however many else and so forth but they system would know
which ports were which to it could assign coordinates to it and use
integrated circuits to send and recieve signals to that specific
coordinate and then send a signal which gets a reply that ID's the
device. So anyway my question is does anyone out there know if this
cn be done and can anyone offer any help? I am just starting out with
microprocessors and i am kind of clueless all i have is an idea.

Great ideas but don't think the stamp can handle that too well. If you are
interested in learning PBasic and how the microprocessors work then by al
means check out the Parallax site. They have great lessons starting from
the very basic lighting a LED to using GPS and A/D conversion. Once you
learn the language, theory and operations there are really neat things you
can do. However currently the stamps do not support interrupts and many of
the things you mentioned cannot be done sucessfully without interrupt
    processing.
