Servo Connector

I am trying to find out if there is a generic name for the 3 wire plug that is
on the end of a servo? I know there are Futaba J types, Airtronics, etc., just
wondering if there is a generic name for them. I am looking to buy a large
quantity and I sure as heck don't want to pay Futaba's prices... figured there
has to be some type of general name or part number for them, maybe from Molex or
Mitsum?

Thanks!

Hank

Give them a call to get a catalog or browse their online catalog.

Looks like Mouser doesn't carry anything that will work... I called
them. Have spent days looking for these, someone has to make them,
$2.00 each (cheapest I've found) is pretty expensive considering what
they are and I want to buy 500+ of them. Still looking for a low cost
supplier for large quantities.

Thanks,
Hank

I'm surprised Mouser does not carry a low profile 3-conductor "female-SIP"
connector with a 0.1 inch pitch.

Yes, the tech at Mouser showed me that one but couldn't supply any specs on the
dimensions of the plug so I am not positive it would fit in a rc car receiver.
Besides at 0.38 for the plug and 0.13 for each pin, that comes to a total of
0.77 for each set. Servo City has plugs (with pins) for 0.75 each which is
better then the 2 bucks I had seen elsewhere. But by following Tim's link I
found them for 0.50 each... heck, may even get a discount from that for buying
500 at a time.

Thanks for everyone's help and thanks Tim for the link!

I replace all of my servo connectors with the Molex KK connectors. They are
keyed, and in a pinch they will fit on a standard 0.100" header, and a
standard servo connector will fit on the Molex header. Mouser carries these
in many formats, from 2 to 8 or 10 pins I believe.

I don't have that option. I have to use the standard servo connector because
they will need to fit in RC receivers. It doesn't look like the KK connectors
would fit.

Do they need to be just a flat 3-pin connector, or do they need the key like
the Futaba connectors. They make some thin, flat connectors like they use on
a CD-ROM drive -- I inherited a whole bucket full of 5-pin ones from where I
used to work -- AMP brand, I believe. They should make a 3-pin version as
well. You still have to crimp the terminals on the wires though, and to do a
professional job you need their expensive crimping tool.

They really don't need to be keyed. I've have found them for 0.50 each (with the
help of some on this list) including terminals which for now is OK. All of the
plugs I have found from AMP, Molex, etc.have been quite a bit more expensive
then that.

It's just that if someone can sell them (that is not a manufacturer) for 50
cents, they have to be buying them for quite a bit less... most likely for 15
cents or less. Thanks for everyone's help... I can at least find them for 50
cents, just have to set the dogs loose in HK to find out who the heck makes
these things inexpensively... ;)

"Connectix", the technique in the connectors, is not so simple
as it seems. The resulting price depends on the materials,
springs, contacts, coating, insulation etc.
I suppose that you want the contact to last for a long time
despite of vibration, humidity etc
See the prices for the mil specs, it is incredible.

Agreed. God only knows how much my previous employer paid for the ones I
have -- they are for medical equipment and the connectors are gold plated.
They no longer make the cables, so they tossed out a bag of 3000 pins and
about 700 connectors. Needless to say I will not want for connectors any
time soon.

50 cents, they have to be buying them for quite a bit less... most likely
for 15 cents or less. Thanks for everyone's help... I can at least find them
for 50 cents, just have to set the dogs loose in HK to find out who the heck
makes these things inexpensively... ;)
