Hall Effect Switch

I need to turn a device on through a waterproof housing. I plan to use a
magnet holder on the outside of the case. To turn the unit on, a magnet
will be placed in the holder adjacent to a Hall effect switch. But that's
as far as I have got.

Are there any reference materials available which will help me design a
circuit to switch a BS1 off and on in this way?

I don't think you can turn a Stamp on or off with a Hall sensor, if you are
talking about interrupting the power. You best bet would be to find a magnet
reed relay or similar than can handle up to 500ma.

Why not consider a reed switch? You are in Vancouver - give Burtek a call
and ask them about reed switches for alarm systems. There are many types
available and this style of reed switch (intended for alarm systems) are
    robust and very reliable.

Use the Hall effect switch to control a 2N7002 which in turn controls
a logic level P channel MOSFET which can be used to switch power on
or off. Hall effect switches are used all the time in patient connect
    devices in the medical field.
