IR switch

I am trying to incorporate an IR LED and detector as a switch into a
circuit to turn on/off a small motor? I am trying to use a stamp to
control a small motor that will turn on when it does not detect an
object between the IR LED and the IR receiver? Would the IR receiver
simply function as an on/off switch or is it more complicated than
that? Thanks

Typically like an on off swtich. There are many available, easy to interface
    to the stamp.
Digikey Photo Interupter 425-1051-5-ND just to name one of many available

    Hi

You could probably download some of the boebot code examples from
the Parallax site as it works in a similar way - i.e. move forward
when you are not going to hit something (as detected by the IR).

Are you driving the motor directly from the stamp, or via a relay? I
used a larger motor and needed a relay, which made it slightly more
complicated, but it still wasn't a huge problem.

It's actually a small servo motor and will probably want to power
with 2 9v batts in series. I hope to use a MOSFET to switch the
servo motor on/off and the IR detector to control the FET. The
switching needs to fast and hopefully it will switch on the servo
when it does not detect any object between the IR LED and the
receiver. I will look into the recommended IR photo interupter that
    you mentioned. Thanks...
