I think a "beacon" setup may be needed, or may simplify things a lot. I'm
planning to try this myself. Basically have a few IR LEDs in various
locations and orientations, transmitting codes that can be distinguished
apart.

your bot use for navigation. How did you construct? Battery? Powered outlet?
Inexpensive to build if I wanted bunches?
