Maybe an old modem can be used?
2400/9600 and similar modems are cheap nowadays...

You can determine if an input is within some limit but you can not just
connect a stamp to a phone line and dial out. Any device attached to a
phone line must be tested and then certified by the FCC. Interfacing to a
phone line has several safety implications and all must be considered.
Also, remember, you are dealing with normal voltages up to 60 volts and ring
voltages over 110 volts ac so your device must be isolated to prevent
damage.

input doesn't fit within a limit I want the BS2 to call an leave a
numerical page...... can it be done without a 3rd party dialer?
