Any experts on MOSFET's out there?
I built a simple motor speed control with a single IR mosfet, Stamp
controlled pwm on the logic level gate.
Tested on bench at low load, worked fine.
Put in application, drawing more current, and after a moment of
running fine at low speed, it shorted drain-to-source, letting the
motor run away...exciting, especially since my power switch is on the
logic side, and I couldn't kill the battery power easily.
I'm running 7.2v, with a motor draw of about 30A.
MOSFET was an IRL3102, rated at 20V and 61A continuous...TO220 case
with big heat sink.
Am I missing something here? Does bigger = better? I can substitute
mosfets with significantly higher voltage and current ratings.
