Lack of Motivation or just money

I was introduced to the basic stamp a while ago by my instructor at
my community college. I love how my programming experience allowed
the inovation of allowing me to use electronics as well, which I
might add is my area of interest. However, after I've completed some
of parallaxs' modules like "Whats a Micro-Controller, Robotics, and
Earth Measurements, I find myself stumped and kinda bored looking for
my own "SOLO PROJECT". I recently got motivated by parallaxs new
videos that they've put up introducing projects regular people (or
teams) are doing. I was really impressed with this model airplane
demo. my idea would be to introduce taking digital photography with
a plane (not really new but seems neat). However after seeing the
cost of everything I gave the idea up. I work on a college budget
and just to buy the stamp kit and board was an achievment for me. A
project I would like to do would be to hook the basic stamp and make
my own caller id, which would allow even private numbers to be
displayed, if at all possible. It seems cheap and semi-interesting.
The reason I post here is to ask for projects that any of you can
reccomend. Keep in mind I have an extremely low budget and am not as
experienced in the electronics field so it has to be a simple project
as well. Thanks for your time and help.

Hah, you sound like me :D

For me, the fun in all this is the learning, not so much actually making
anything useful. After doing the earth measurements package and going
through Al Williams books, I started casting around for something else to
work on. A friend of mine brews beer at home so I started working on a beer
brewing controller. Got all the hardware sussed and the guy decided to move
and now has no room for brewing so I canned that one.

Next thing was an electrical event counter - I wanted to count how many
times the high liquid level shut-off device on our Ammonia refrigeration
plant tripped over an ice season. Took me a couple weeks but, with the help
of folks on the lists, I got it done. Not exactly glamorous but it was fun
    anyway.

The experience taught me a lot though and, with the help of Tracy Allen's
site, I started on a swimming pool controller. Been at it for a couple of
months now and I've learned a LOT. I have the hardware all figured out and
the programming about 90% done. Just working on refining the information
display (on a 240x128 graphic LCD) and data logging. I have a swimming pool
of my own so I don't have to worry about this one being orphaned.

So, look to your friends, your job, and your own home for ideas. The mundane
tasks can be just as interesting as the sexy ones.

For your Caller ID project you need an FSK device (NJM2211) that receives caller
id information and converts it to 1200 baud serial which the Stamp can read.
    Goto http://www.microengineeringlabs.com/products/labxt.htm
to find Stamp compatible PicBasic Pro sample programs and schematics for hooking
    all up.
    Have fun.
