optimized for line following

hello

im new to basic stamps and im very new to programming.
i bought the boe-bot full kit from parallax and i was
interrested in the line following program. i typed in
the code, downloaded it onto the stamp, and i dont
know if it is the photo resistor or the lighting of
the room that has problems, but it has trouble
detecting the black line on the white surface. i used
construction paper as the surface and a black electric
tape for the line. maybe the program isnt optimized or
am i being wrong? can someone help me out with a
better code and if the schematic is modified, can you
add some notes too? im in 1rst year college and i want
to start things off ahead.

thank you.

The black electrical tape may be too reflective, since its usually shiny.
Might cut some strips of black construction paper and see if it sees those
better. I haven't looked at this particular lesson in the Parallax guide,
but there may also be a way to tweak the code or circuit to get it to work
    properly.

As a side note, our club uses black photographic background paper and some
sort of white vinyl tape for our line following course -- it seems to be
less problematic than black lines on a white surface.
