I was looking for something like this too. Can anyone
post a link to a schematic of a bare-bone GPS
receiver?

Thanks,
Nick

    Hi, my name is Stain.
I also think about some GPS and compass working with BS2.

I came across a digital compass on the website from softmark:
    www.ar.com.au/~softmark/page18.html
They have a LPT to PC and stand alone versions.
    (The boa-bot-robot-compass on parallax.com has only a 8 resolutions
and can't bee used as a compass)

    GPS project.
If you study the Parralax.com, click on Resources, Nut and volts
columns, you will be offered to purchase tree books. But if you
click over the book "view/Downloads", you can study the projects in
etch book. In book 3, you will find project nr 83. "Where in the
world is my basic stamp" This project works. Don't try anything
else, you will be broke before….......

If you jump on this digital-compass from Softmark, please tell me.
    My e-mail is: Stein_Frostad@m...

That looks like an excellent product... The price is quite good as well for
the GPS and engine and an ACTIVE antenna. I use GPS in my car for amateur
radio applications called APRS and use a Garmin GPS unit.

Getting data from the gps is duck soup... Simple ascii character
    string...

That device looks like an excellent starting point..

You may also want to look at www.astrotoo.com for their GPS development kit.
Good product (I've tried it) with the advantage of a 3in x 3in prototype
    development area on the board.
