Hello - thought ya'll might like to see this machine sculpture I just
finished building. It's a big metal flower that opens and closes
proportional to the outdoor light level. It's pretty simple circuitwise -
just a 2sx, a 5804 stepper motor driver and an RC time circuit on a light
sensor. It was a little tricky to calibrate and such, and mechanically there
were some challenges, but it came out pretty well I think. The whole thing
is steel except for the petals, which are copper. There's a live cam on it -
if you check it quick you'll be able to see it open, as it is quite close to
dusk here in San Francisco. Word to the wise - it's really slow, meant to
open and close over the course of the day, so you might want to get a cup of
coffee or something and check back in on it every once in a while if you
really want to see it move. Enjoy.
