Hbridge power supply problem

I recently made an hbridge and right now im powering it from the
stampII vdd and vss. That seems to wrok fine. Not wanting to use up
the 9v battery, I tried to hook it up to an external power supply
(batteries) at the same voltage, but now it doesnt work. Ive tried a
few different sets of batteries and they all test at 5V or more, but
the motor still will not move on an external power supply. It only
works if I have the + and - hooked up to stamp-regulated 5V. The only
thing I can think of is that its getting more current from the Stamp.
Thanks! The link is the hbridge I made :).

Didn't see your stamp connecion to see how you are keeping the power
supplies connected. are you just using a common ground ?

Seems that if you are powering evrything with the same power supply
    it should work.

You CAN use a seperate power supply. You need to connect the ground of your
external power supply to the ground of the stamp (Vss).

That should do it. If the grounds of the two seperate power supplies are not
connected, it DEFINATELY will not work.
