Hello,
I did not find the humidity & temperature sensor through Findchips.com
search.
Where can I get it in USA and what is the approximate unit price.
Thank You
Mohamed Refky

Have you tried the Honeywell unit ? Since the SHT71 in not made in
america you need to find a dealer who is importing the thing.

It's not cheap at close to $40.00, but there are a few suppliers.
Maybe Tracy or one of the other guru's who get involved with the
different humidity sensors will let us know if it is a viable unit ?

You can get a free sample of the SHT11 from the company, and it arrives
fast. It also tells you where to order the SHT17 (not 71, BTW). The SH11 is
the same sensor, it just isn't mounted. I mounted mine on a small PCB with a
SIP header. Works great, and Tracy's code for it is a champ.

I searched on google and found the sensiiron company, but saw nothing about
samples. I also do not know where Tracy's code is.

[Parallax] making a DIP adaptor for it -- our first run of boards had a
problem, otherwise they'd be out by now. We will be selling the sensor,
mounted on a board you can plug into a socket or breadboard within a month or
so.
See Tracy Allen's web site (www.emesystems.com) for some really incredible
code for this sensor.

Here is the sample link:
http://www.sensirion.com/en/sampling
Tracy's code is at:
http://www.emesystems.com/OL2sht1x.htm
Make sure to read the soldering stuff in the app notes that can be found on
the Sensirion site. I thought I might have damaged mine by overheating, as
it didn't work immediately (and for a few hours that I tried) after I
installed it on the board. However, I tried again a few days later and
Presto! it worked. I might have hooked it up wrong the first time, one must
always suspect operator error first. But it is a simple circuit, and I
checked it a million times. One possibility is that one of the app notes
says something about it requiring around 48 hours after soldering to meet
spec. Maybe in my case it needed time to "chill" (in the California sense
;-))
Cool sensor at a good price. Reacts quickly, and seems to repeat well. Still
needs to be run through the 'environmental mill' to see if it will hold up.
I am making a remote sensor out of one that I am going to hang from a tree
limb in an exposed location and see what happens. If it ain't up to rural
living, it's of no use to me!

High Quality Humidity Sensor SHT71
Digital, interchangeable & fully calibrated!
The SHT71 is a fully calibrated, pluggable relative humidity and temperature
sensor. It comes in a high-quality pin-type packaging (for 1.27mm sockets).
Owing to full calibration and digital 2-wire output (CMOSens® technology),
the SHT71 relative humidity sensor is fully interchangeable. In this way,
you are spared the elaborate and cost-intensive recalibration in case of a
humidity sensor replacement!
The sensor head is connected to the pins by a small bridge to minimize heat
conduction and response time. All pins are gold plated to avoid corrosion
even under the harshest operating conditions.

electronics, but mounted on the long neck board as described below
with pins on 50 mil spacing. Picture at:
http://www.sensirion.com/en/sensors/humidity/default.htm
The difference between SHTx1 and SHTx5 is the accuracy, with the x5
being more accurate, at +/-2% versus +/- 3.5%.
The circuit board will I think include the pullup resistor at least,
and more convenient 100 mil spacing for the pins.
There are local reprentatives listed in the USA and other countries.
I have had no trouble getting parts from Micheal Karst at Sensolution
in California.
