RS232 help

Hello,
I am having some trouble with an rs232 connection. I am kind of new to
this stuff, so I'm probably making a stupid mistake.
Anyhow, in this part of my project, I am connecting a pocket pc to a
external serial modem using a casio connector and a DB25 connector. I
wired up all of the connections per casio's specs, but I can't get the
modem to work.
When I power on both items, the modem's RD SD TR & CS lights come on.
However, when I try to send a dial string the TR light goes out, but it
doesn't dial, it just sits there until the connection times out then
gives me an error message at which point the TR light comes back on.
Would anybody be able to point me at which connection may be messed up
to make it do this? I have the TXD wired to the RXD and vice versa. Is
this correct or do I have them reversed?
Thanks a lot!!

Douglas -
For some modems you need to use ALL CAPS.
