Stamp Wireless Network??

Folks, I'd appreciate your input.

I've been thinking about a project for some time and I thought I'd check
here in case I'm reinventing a wheel.

I want to put together a small network of low-cost units. A Stamp would be
the ideal device as they are cheap and easy to debug.

Each unit just has one or two simple jobs of monitoring something such as
temperature or light/dark or a proximity detector. They all report their
results to a master unit.

However the important thing is that I want all the units to talk to each
other by wireless. If a device can't send a message to the master unit
because it is out of range, it will pass the message on to a another unit
nearer the master for forwarding.

Another feature is that the devices will automatically learn about each
other's existence, and the shortest route to the Master unit. They will also
learn new routes if one unit dies due to a flat battery or whatever. So the
units need to send out regular broadcasts giving out their identify and the
units that they know about.

Now this kind of approach has been done for many years in the ham community,
but the code is complex and far too rich in functionality for this simpler
requirement.

Has anyone come across anything that does, or is close to what I'm thinking
about??

Thanks,

Tony

    Thought about it........ :-)
Getting the protocol right will be your biggest issue.
I originally looked at using BS1 but just not enough code space, and
other projects have stopped me looking at doing it with a BS2
