BS Editor question

Hi All,

I'm sure this can be done, and I've looked around but I can't find out how.

Is there a way to do a "soft" return in the editor? So that the compiler
will view 2 or more lines of PBASIC as one line? I hate having debugs or
long statements trailing WAY off to the right.

Thanks,

Jonathan

No, in the current editor all statements must exist on the same line. We are
in development of a new editor and it does allow lines to be broken. The new
editor should be ready for release in January.

Jon,

Thanks for the reply. I'm glad to hear this feature is on the way. By any
chance, will the new editor be able to auto-highlight vars, routines and so
on in different colors? Makes it easier for us simple minded to read our own
code ;-)

Yes, syntax highlighting is also in the new editor. It does not highlight
labels (the start of your routines), but can highlight keywords and known
[internal] constant names, comments, and quoted sections.

I will check with engineering to see if we can add label-highlighting [no
promise!] before release since the new editor does insist on having each
label terminated with a colon [the current version is very lax about this].

Other things that you'll enjoy: IF-THEN-ELSE, DO-LOOP, CASE-SELECT. We're
working hard to make everything right. I've been programming in PBASIC for
over eight years and the last couple of weeks have been the most fun with an
early version of the new editor. BTW ... it is backward compatible with all
BS2 Stamps.

Will there be a new tokenizer release to support the new language
features?

BTW, MacBS2 already has limited syntax coloring (keywords and comments
only), fwiw.

Once the new editor is complete and fully tested, yes.

Jon,

BTW there are a few links in the Nuts & Volts
columns that are missing, and or incorrect. For
example, there is NO Column #8...Colum #7 refers to
#6...That's a couple I noticed so far. Lots of stuff
there! WOW!
