Simple Timer

Hello All,
I am working on making A simple timer for my kids Power Wheel. I am hooking NEON
tubes to it. I want it to work like this, When the peddle is pushed the NEON
will come on, when released the timer will start counting for a set time ( 5 -
10 Min ) then turn off the NEON. The NEON runs on +12V.
I was thinking of using a LM555 but I do not know if I want to make a MONOSTABLE
or ASTABLE or would I use a different type.
Thanks
A. Conti

The nice thing about the 555 is its desire for a negative going pulse,
so it will be very easy to trigger the timer to start when the "gas" is
released.
If your power wheels is a 2-speed model, make sure you take a trigger
from the wheel that is always powered.
