Probably a silly question , but I have a Stamp Stack 2 board that
comes with a pic16c57c-20p microcontroller. I picked up some
additional micro's that are pic16c57c-04p, from the data sheets I
cant see any difference, but when running the stamp editor program
it wont recognize the new micro.Just wondering why?

    Question:

What is a Stamp Stack 2 board?

    Regards, Kai

    See http://www.hvwtech.com/pages/products_view.asp?ProductID=12

It's a basic stamp 2 designed for use in a breadboard.

Did you just pick up a blank pic? Basic Stamps run on a special firmware
made by parallax, and as far as I know the only place you can get the
preprogrammed PIC is from parallax or one of their distrobuters. Well
anyway, this is just a thought of what it could be based on what you said,
    hope this helps. =)

The micros you bought are blank. The micro on the Stamp Stack 2
board is a Parallax Stamp 2 Interpreter chip. It is programmed with
the PBASIC interpreter code that runs your programs.
