Is the probable path known?
What kind of environment are we talking about?
Accuracy?
Security?
(Do you need it to be 'unavoidable'?)
There's no such thing as a 'perfect solution', but when you know the
situation, it may be possible to find one that's 'good enough'...

But what is/are the perfered method of tracking a moving object.
Like having a survailnce cam follow a person walking by? IR?
