Keeping Time

Is it possible to use a 555timer to create a clock (hr:min:sec) with
the BS2p? I have found some BS1 code using a 74HCT4060, but still
trying to obtain such an IC. Sample code or any other method of
keeping time will be helpful.

Thanks - Mark Pascual

If you're going to hook-up a 555, you might as well spring for a PCF8583 and
get a full real-time clock. The PCF8583 has a 1-Hz output that can be used
or you can simply poll the time and deal with it that way.

You can find code samples for the PCF8583 on our web site, as well as the
chip itself.

Is there any updated code for the PCF8583 using the BS2p? The
sample code on the Parallax site does not display the time that is
put in by the user, neither does is it increment the time.

Thank You In Advance,
Anthony

I think you need to check your circuit connections. As a test, I downloaded
the code from our web site right into my editor and it ran fine.

I have made the long version software work, but the short version definitely
has errors.

Dwain:

If you could be a bit more specific about which code is not working for you
and I will check it out. What is the name of the program that you're having
problems with? It should be dated. What is that date?

It's my job to write that code and I'm very careful with it. I am human,
though, and there could be an error. If there is, I will correct it. The
PCF8583 code that is available on the Plus Pack page (part of a ZIP file)
does, in fact, work without modification. I verified that last night.

Regards.

John,

I will find the info that u want and let you know thisafternoon (my time).
Trust me I wasn't having a dig, GOD KNOWS MOST OF WHAT I AM WRITING IS FULL
OF BUGS, and I am only working at a very rudimentary level, I thought I
could help out as I have been working with that clock stuff for a few weeks
now, and have had some ups and downs.

Regards,

Dwain.
