Interfacing BS2 with a PC

New to the list, so I am sorry if this is an oft asked question.
I am thinking about homebrewing a security system for the rental
house I am in right now. I would like to put magnetic sensors on the
doors, pressure sensors (piezos) on several windows, etc. I would
also like to be able to interface with my PC and have the BS2 trigger
an action on my PC such as sending an e-mail to me at work.
Can anyone suggest some good resources on how to interface PCs and
BS2s?
thanks
Brad

application notes. On the security side, you might visit www.x10.com
and note their modules for web-based security monitoring.
