For those of you who have made the plunge from programing/working with
Basic Stamps to programming/working with bare PIC's:
What's the logical step to take? What compilers/IDE's/eval
boards/programmers/chips did you buy to start with? Did you use C?
PicBasic? Assembly? Any road blocks?
I'm particularly interested in working with the PIC 16F876.
I'll never give up the Basic Stamp! But I need some CHEAP apps.

of the syntax is very much like PBASIC, makes for an easy transition.
