Dear Stampers:
The robotic experiment 5 "object Detection using infrared" mention a circuit
made out of the 555 but it does not show the connection for such circuit. Also
said that "A 555 timer can be used for this purpose, but the 555 timer circuit
is more complex and less functional than the circuit we will use in this..."
some one can tell me where to find this circuit? and how it works
Thank you very much for your help

I know the parallax robotics manual in the chapter 5 "object detection using
infrared" says "A 555 timer can be used for this purpose, but the 555 timer
circuit is more complex and less functional than the circuit we will use in
this..." but I still want to use the 555 circuit, the probems is that it does
not show the circuit connections, please could you tell me where to find it or
tell me how to build such a circuit?
Thanks
You might try searching for "IRPD" - I don't know if you have yet or not.

text. I do remember that there were a few discrepancies between the
drawing, schematic, and parts list, but I was eventually able to
figure it out and get it working. The new method is much more
elegant and simple... Don't know why you would want to build all the
electronics when you can accomplish the same thing with one simple
command, but I can fax you the few pages.
You should also note that by implementing it the new way (by using
the FREQOUT command, you also can control the sensitivity by changing
the parameters in the code. This enables you to create a "distance
sensor" of sorts that you can't do by building the 555 curcuit. With
the 555 approach, you will only be able to create a "object
detection" sensor.

A 555 circuit is at
http://www.frii.com/~dlc/robotics/projects/botproj.htm
go down to "555 Based IR Proximity Detector"
If you don't want to use the Stamp for timing, you can also use a Co-
Processor from www.bluebelldesign.com. It also allows programming
various frequencies for variable sensitivity. It does a lot more (A/D
Servo controller ++) too.
