Runtime PC serial connection

I need help. I put a BS2 in a wire wrap board, and it programs fine. I
can do serial in and out to the debug window. If I press reset, I get
my startup message from the BS2. If I try to connect using
Hyperterminal I get nothing from the BS2. If I pull the BS2 out of my
board and put it in the Board of Education it works fine, so the problem
is in my hardware. I have looked at the connection shown on page 275,
version 2.0 of the Basic Stamp manual have my DB-9 port wired as shown,
except for the 22k resister, being that I am using Rpin=16. Also, my
DB-9 pin 4 (DTR) is connected to ATN on the stamp.

What am I missing?

Thanks,
Dan Thames

I am not 100% sure of this, but I vaguely recall that HyperTerminal messes
with the ATN line and thus the Stamp thinks it's trying to be programmed and
    is waiting for the download.
Try disconnecting the ATN line by inserting a couple of pins in series
with the ATN line and use a "configuration jumper" to open/close the ATN
line. (closed for programming, open for HyperTerm)

Again, I'm not 100% sure of this..

    Hi
Yes you are correct I actually use a switch in my systems.
I use a 10K pull down resitor to hold the line down when it is not being
    used
this helps reduce noise geting to the stamp.

You guys are right on track. I just removed the DTR line from the BS2
and the data is getting to the PC. Digging deeper I found a circuit
example on the BS2-IC Module schematic drawing (Rev F.) that shows the
ATN line cap. coupled to the DTR line, and another cap. From the ATN to
ground. I can see that this is used on the B.O.E. also. I might try
that which would avoid the jumper for programming. The device I am
building will be inside a box and a programming jumper would be less
    than ideal.

    Thanks for the help,
    Dan
