I have a need to send serial data from one BS2 to another from an inside
location to an outside location about 1/2 mile apart. What would be the
most economical and easiest way to do this without having to get a FCC
license or such (repeaters,etc.). Thanks in advance, Dan :)

You can use equipment that's already FCC approved to side-step the approval
[and expense]. The 900MHz modules from http://www.maxstream.net offer a
very long range, and they're really simple to use.
These aren't exactly inexpensive, but they are definitely worth the initial cost
if
you want a rock-solid + long range solution that requires little or no
maintenance
once setup. They have a nice little configuration utility you use to initially
configure
the modules that's very handy.
