Hello Group:
I an thinking of using a bs2 linked with a packet tnc to feed
telemetry from a mountain top repeater. Before I re invent the wheel
has anyone been here? I would like the bs2 to log temp, voltage, and
the like. Any help or ideas would be great.
Thanks Walt

    Hi Walt:

I have sucessfully intercepted packet cluster data with the Stamp no
problem and I am sure capturing your data would be a snap as well. I would
reccomend the BS2P or BS2P40 as they have lots of storage space you could
use OR you could use a serial EEPROM, serial RAM all kinds of options..

    Hi Walt,

shouldn't be too hard to do.

Clement Engineering had produced a PIC chip, the MIM,
which took in GPS and telemetry and put out APRS
formatted strings. TAPR.org has a couple APRS projects
to give ideas on what is possible as well as the
METCON - an 8051 based telemetry to packet interface.
The spec is there so you can model your communications
    protocol similar to this application.

Since you are only dealing with one serial port and
you know where the repeater is, you won't have to
worry about GPS. The BS2 can then be used as a mux for
various digital and analog input sources.

Good Luck, let us know what you come up with.

    Are you using a KPC3+?

I've sent text to the KPC3. Sent text at 4800 baud, N81. You can
send the data to an LT buffer and program the TNC to transmit the
LT buffere contents at one minute intervals. Alternatively, you can
put the TNC into transparent mode. Then anything the TNC hears,
it transmits after about 3 seconds. Set the baud rate of the TNC
so that it always comes up at 4800.

I've used the MIM and haven't got it to transmit reliably. I
recommend sticking with a KPC3 like my earlier email suggested.
