Aren't you glad RS232 is a standard ? Think how many problems if it weren't.

getting communications set up between the Stamp II on a prtotyping
card! And every time it turns out to be the serial cable.
I have a drawer full of cables that I have built over the last 2
years and none of them seem to work on the current project. When I
look for a schematic on the Internet, I get vague descriptions, even
on the Parallax site.
(Rant over, now... thanks for listening!)
see photos section for a diagram of two of my cables.
feel free to post into the photo section a schematic of your working
cable. Please indicate the PC and the prototyping board being used.
When this is done, maybe we will have a collection of good cable
configuration diagrams in a easy-to-locate place!
Cordially,
Jim Cambron
the tutorial at
http://www.phanderson.com/stamp/intro2/intro2.html
No caps or anything, just straight wiring. Won't work with hyperterm
etc since DTR will be held high but, works fine with the IDE and
stampplot.

diagram to the photos section of this forum in the "RS-232 Cables"
album.
I'd like to thank Peter (ghidera2000) Anderson for his informative
post on this thread.
Now we have a place to look for a wiring diagram that works!
Feel free to add other Stamp cable wiring diagrams in this album. If
necessary, I'll happily change the name of the album to broaden it's
contents descriptions beyond RS-232.
Sincerely,
Jim "Ack" Cambron
