New PBASIC Tokenizer Released Today
Archiver
Posts: 46,084
Hi,
We have just released the PBASIC Tokenizer for Macintosh (OS 9 and OS
X). It is a "carbonized" shared library that will run in both OS versions.
Additionally, due to feedback from the initial release, we made a
modification to the TModuleRec structure (the shared memory structure
required to interface to the tokenizer) in order to accomidate development
languages and platforms that impose limitations on fixed structures.
This means two things:
1) All the Visual BASIC users who gave up on the original release should
download this release.
2) Those that used the original (even in Linux) will need to make a
slight modification to their interface.
Please read the What's New section of the "Using the PBASIC Tokenizer
Library" document for more information.
You can download the latest release (supporting Windows, Linux and Mac) from:
http://www.parallaxinc.com/html_files/downloads/downloads_tokenizer.htm
or just go to http://www.parallaxinc.com and click on the link at the top
of the NEWS column.

Is there some secret to accessing these files? I've been trying both of these
methods to access the latest tokenizer files, using 3 different browsers
(Netscape
on a SPARC and a PC, and IE on a PC) but all that comes up are the two,
PBASIC_Tokenizer.zip and PBASIC_Tokenizer.tar.gz, that contain files from back
in
September.
How does one get access to the latest versions mentioned in this posting, plus
the one for the Mac?
Any help would be appreciated!

1) Go to the Parallax web site: www.parallaxinc.com
2) Right under the news banner (middle of screen), click the Tokenizer link.
3) You'll find the various platform links at the bottom of the page.
4) Right-click the desired archive link, then select "Save Target As..."
I work remotely (in Dallas, TX) and just tested this will all three archives.
My browser is IE 6.

Thanks for your prompt reply, Jon. Unfortunately, I had already tried this ...
but I tried again, just to be sure, and it still showed the same page, with the
same 2 links (for the Windows and Linux versions, and those contained files
dated
from September 2002).
In particular, when I download those files, I get this:

The files are there; I can see the links to them, but haven't downloaded
them since I don't have a MAC. Maybe you need to clear your browser cache
so you see the current copy of the web page vs the older one cached on your
system?

Tried that, too, Jim. On all 3 browsers I tried. One on a SPARC (Netscape 4.78)
and 2 on a PC (Netscape 6.2 and IE 5.5, which had NEVER been used to access the
Parallax site .. I avoid using M$ progs as much as possible, doing as much as I
possibly can on my SPARC :-)
All 3 gave the same result. I see just the two original versions. What is
strange,
too, is if I download them I get versions from back in September, which I am
assuming
are NOT the versions just posted last week.

I see them also. One remote possibility is that his ISP is keeping
cached pages and feeding them to him instead of actually going to the
site. I have seen this with some smaller ISP's.

Tried that too, Jon. Forced both Netscapes to reload the page from the site.
Didn't bother trying with IE, since I had never used IE to access the site
in the first place.
This is very strange, I have to admit!
Thanks for all the suggestions, though. I've already tried everything that
everyone has suggested, to no avail. But I sure appreciate everyone's
suggestions!

Well, I am trying to access the site from my work SPARC and PC. I work for
Nortel Networks (no jokes, please :-) and I *think* our ISP is Sprint. So
it's not really a smaller ISP; even if it's NOT Sprint, I doubt Nortel would
be using a smaller ISP.
Thanks for the suggestion though, Dale.

Maybe your provider is caching the page? Not to argue, but you can't
possibly see a different page than I see unless it's a problem with caching
either by your provider or in your browser.

If the Mac download didn't show - maybe you need to refresh the page?
The cache wouldn't have to be very old to be out of date.

You are, of course, correct Jim. Since it's not being cached in any of the
browsers
I've tried, our ISP *must* be cacheing it.
Or ... at least they WERE ... I just tried it again, and FINALLY I can see all 3
files!
Thanks again to everyone who took the time to offer their help. I appreciate it!

No longer necessary, dirt939. Apparently the page was being cached by our ISP
(seemed to have been cached for awhile ... I first downloaded the files last
Wednesday!). I just tried again, and FINALLY see all 3 files.
Thank you for taking the time to offer a suggestion, though; I appreciate it!
