    Erik,

    Can you elaborate on:

    - RJ-11 jack for Dallas/Maxim "Blue Dot Receptor" (DS1402D-DR8 /
    DS1402RP8)
    sockets

Havent heard about this, what's it do?

    Thanks
    Gary

    Hello from Gregg C Levine
I can. That's the port to which you, or any user, would physically
connect a blue-dot reader for iButtons. The iButtons contain almost
anything, including temp sensors. I personally advise you to go here,
www.maxim-ic.com and to the other site they will send you to, as well.

Very odd. Now that I've read the datasheet, I'm even more confused.

Okay, maybe its just yet-another-1-wire-interface? (YAOWI).

I'm really trying to grasp this one...You have a blue dot sensor and
a probe. Touching the probe to the dot causes some 1-wire
transmission? How do you do things as mentioned such as temperature
sensors? Can you transfer data through the probe/dot connection?

I think I'm at a conceptual impass on this one.

    Gary

The "Blue Dot Receptor" is a fancy iButton socket (actually, two) on the end
of a coiled cable. The cable connects to the BS2p demo boards through an
    RJ-11 connector.

Check out this link for details:

There are various Blue Dot Recpetor probes. The one we used in testing was a
dual iButton socket with an RJ-11 connection. The test program looked for a
device in the socket, then read the serial number from it. That code is
included in the documentation that comes with the BS2p40 Demo Board.

iButtons can be used for many things, but they are typically used for
security, similar to a card reader, only it is way more discrete.
iButtons look like watch batteries. When you place the iButton onto
an iButton connector that is connected to a device, the device
requests data to be transferred from the iButton to the device
through the connector. Does that make sense. They actually are
    pretty neat little devices.

    Hello from Gregg C Levine
Yes, you can. The company, (Parallax has mountains of application notes
    on that subject. Someplace anyway.
