Did you know you can use a Darlington 2003 or 2803 for an inverting level
converter ? 5 to 30VDC input, 5 to 50 VDC output. All it takes is a 4.7K
resistor from the output power to the collector pin.

For instance - 12VDC to pin 10 of a 2803 and Gnd to pin 9. Tie pin 18 to
5VDC via a 4.7K. With no input signal on pin 1 the voltage at pin 18 is
5VDC. Apply 12VDC to pin 1, it turns on the Darlington, and pin 18 goes low.
You have now converted a 12VDC input signal to a 5VDC output signal,
inverted of course. You could use 24VDC instead of 5VDC on the output and
converted the level from 12 to 24VDC. Or you could put 5VDC on pin 10, 12VDC
on pin 18, and convert a 5 volt level to a 12 volt level.
Understood?

Are you saying that I could make up a 5 to 12 volt step up using a 2003?
I have an application where I need a 12v supply to an encoder, at requires
14mA at 12v. Is this possible, and if so, can you give more details.
Regards,
Chris

Good evening, Chris.
Apply 5VDC to pin 8 of the 2003. Attach a 4.7K to each output pin and tie
them all to 12VDC. The output collector pin at the bottom of the resistor is
your inverted 12VDC signal. A high on the input gives a low on the output
and vice versa.
