probem with com1???

Hello:
nice group I think I will learn fast to program the stampbasic
But, I have a problem at the start, I have a toshiba Satellite Pro 4200 running
w98, Basic stamp editor v1.33
with the cable supplied by parallax,, ok, this works perfectly in my home
computer, but when I want to use my toshiba laptop and run the ID to identify
the Basic stamp this some times identify it ok with loopback=yes, echo=yes and
the correct device type, but most of the times it identify loopback yes echo no
and divice type nothing I read the manual and checked the power source and all
that but can't fixit
could any one help me with this case
