Continuous PWM

It appears that with PBASIC I cannot simply set my PWM and have it run
continuously (free running), till I change it later.
Is there some way to do this?

channels of concurrent PWM via simple serial commands. I just bought a pair
and now I wonder how I got along without them.

read on... You need to use a coprocessor to "offload" the activity of
producing the pulses. There are several servo controllers out on the
market. Scott Edwards (www.seetron.com) makes one called the SSC
that is probably the most popular and easiest to use. Polulu
(www.pololu.com) makes a very good one that has all the functions of
the SSC plus more. There are also several companies that make a chip
that can produce PWM's... Al Williams (www.al-williams.com) has the
PAK-V and the PAK-VIII. I personally had a hard time understanding
the difference between the two and the format that they use, but Al
does provide good support to make up for the confusing
documentation. Finally, there is FerretTronics
(www.ferrettronic.com) FT639. It uses a simple command structure and
is the least costly of the bunch. If you are just trying to drive
two modified servos, like the BOEBot, and are looking to off load the
Stamp, consider the FT639 (fairly easy to use, and qite inexpensive!)
Hope this helps,
Steve

Stamp does. You provide a duty cycle and it selects a frequency. It also
has another mode where the frequency is fixed, unlike the Stamp.
The PAK-VIII on the other hand is a pulse generator. Many people use it
to drive RC servos, but that's not all it does. It essentially generates
pulses that are on for a selectable duration and off for a selectable
duration. You have the option to count off a certain number of pulses
and stop.
The PAK-V is best for controlling lights and motors (in fact, the PAK-V
will be used in a big Christmas movie...). The PAK-VIII can do the same
things, but it is best when you want to control pulse durations, such as
in RC servo control.
Hope that helps to clear up any confusion.

Hello Al,
Are you at liberty to tell us which Christmas movie?

studios has a big warning on all their paper work that you are not to
mention that they buy from you in promotional material, etc. (not just
us, it is preprinted on their forms). I'm trying to make sure I don't
step on any toes.
Something science fiction, though.... I'll report back if I can get Gary
to confirm its OK.

I hope you're able to let us know what movie and in which
applications the PAK-V is used.
