not communicating bsp2 ??

Hi all,
I'm finally beginning my basic stamp education, but have run into trouble
getting started. I am getting an error message :

"basic stamp 2 detected but not responding on com1, check power supply."

I have run a loopback test on com1 03F8 and it checks out fine. The debug
terminal on the software also seems to check out....

I am running win2k and the software is version 1.096. Is there an updated
version I need for win 2k ??

Any help would be appreciated.
thanks,
ken

Hi Ken. I had the same trouble with a Gateway P166 running Win'98. It
never worked. I had to dig up an old P133 running windows 95. Not pretty,
    but it works.

My thought is that it's more a windows thing than the BS2.

If you open up a terminal window and reset the BS2, do you get a response?
Mine gave me 16 lines of what looks like a test followed by a "unit failed"
    message.

The stamp worked fine as soon as I hooked it up to the older computer.

    Kenny;
Don't know if this is your problem, but it sure what mine. Symptoms were
    identical...
I've been an embedded programmer, hardware designer, scientist etc...for ove
25 years but fell prey to the 'village idiot' phase when...
I took the board with the bs2 on it and left the attached black
(semi-conductive) foam on the bottom thinking I could use it as an insulator
in event I placed the board on anything metal....
...hear the big NO meter go off...
differences between conductive material intending to handle ESD and those
    simply intending to insulate/isolate..
The black foam provided just enough sink to allow me loopback tests
successfully, light the idiot led but never respond on any comm port...
This is offered just in case...

I had the same problem and I upgraded to the latest version (verion
1.33) of the editor software and it worked perfectly. version 1.096
was the same version I tried but it is really old.
