bs2 ->Macromedia Director, serial data vs keyboard encoder

Hello group.

I have a rather specific question, but I think someone will have some
advice for me.

I'm building a project with a friend that uses a bs2 (maybe switching to
2p24 if needed for speed) to connect about 22 switches to a game written in
Macromedia Director.

We've come up with two options for bringing the data in. Director has an
xtra that allows it to read serial data, or we could use a keyboard encoder
to simulate key presses. The stamp will only transmit the info if there is
a change in state, i/e - if a button changes from on or off. However, it's
possible that a number of the buttons could be changing at the same time.

Is it faster to have the stamp encode the state changes and send it as
serial data, or just hook up the keyboard encoder, with one key for each
button? Will there be a significant performance difference?

For those not familiar with Macromedia Director, I assume the issues would
be the same for a VB program, etc.

Any advice or input is highly appreciated.
