I recently purchased the Basic Stamp 2IC starter kit with board of education. I
am a complete newbie at electronics. Parallax has tutorials for connecting up
LEDs and LEDs with a tact button, CB sound generator, and for the photoresistor.
The last 2 tutorials sound and photoresistor have a much increased learning and
are not explained as well.

I was just wondering if there are any good websites geared for complete newbies
with Basic Stamps or just generic stamp hacking. Maybe where they explain
different components in depth and walk you through things in laymans terms.

Thanks,

Brandon

    Brandon:

You should have received a Parallax CD with your order. There is a lot of
material on the CD that will be helpful to you, including our Educational
Series texts and StampWorks. Give it a look.

    Brandon,

It seems to me that microcontrollers (Basic Stamps) are somewhat
advanced in an electronics education. You have to be familiar with
basic electonics (Ohm's law, Kirchoff's law, etc.) AND software. I
would take a beginners class in electronics before jumping into
    microcontrollers.

I am currently reading "Microcontroller Projects with Basic Stamps" by
Al Williams which has some nice projects, but really requires some
    electronics knowledge to digest.

Shortly (within the week we hope), Southern Illinois University in
Partnership with Parallax will be releasing a basic tutorial on
programming for the BASIC Stamp. The 1st phase of it is almost
complete and ready to be released, covering basics of the Stamp,
programming structires, variables, loops, simple I/O.

The format of the tutorial is web based and/or power point --
    animated and some interaction.

We will post when it's ready for the world.

By december we hope to have it complete with all major BS2 topics
(memory read/write, serial data transfers, lookup tables, etc). It
will also contain fundementals on electronics and programmming in
    general (flowcharts, etc).

    Hope it'll help you!

    Martin,

This is just what I've been waiting for, the basics(every pun
intended) of good program structure and planning. I can't wait - we
rookies need all of the help we can get.

    Looking forward to the release,

    Tim
