Infrared data transfer with Palm

I am putting a small project together and wondering if Basic stamp
is the good choice for what I need.

Could anyone tell me if a basic stamp can be set receive infrared
data from a palm device. I just need to send a sequence of numbers
from the palm to the Stamp. I read about receiving data from TV
remotes... but with a palm, I wondered if it was possible. (the palm
part of it should not be the problem, I can get it to send the data
at various freq. etc...) It's the receiver end(the stamp)that I
would really appreciate help with. I do not know much about IR
protocols, compatibility between devices etc...

Thanks for anyone willing to send their advice :o)
