Has anyone used the L294 (single) or L295 (dual), they
are switch mode solenoid drivers from
http://us.st.com/stonline/index.shtml.
PDF is found below of the L294 chip.

Mouser has the L294 for $4.2 and the L295 for $6.20,
and i am trying to weigh the cost benefit of this over
going the transistor/relay method. i have 16 of these
to set up, and i am tring to lower cost, overhead, my
soldering time, and board size. i was hoping to just
be able to hook it up direct to the stamp and
solenoid. it claims TTL compatible, and that it has
all switching and reverse voltage protection built in.
any input??? thanks in advance
